When you imagine a tutor, what comes to mind? The typical tutor is thought to be an honors high school or college student who will sit down and help your kids finish their homework. While there is nothing wrong with this type of tutor, what if you could hire someone with a teaching license? Someone with over a decade of child care experience, a background in special education instruction, and a positive, growth-oriented mindset towards learning? If that sounds appealing, then look no further than Lops + Vulpes tutoring services.
We offer a multitude of services designed to ease your stress and bring a smile to your face– especially on days when you don’t like smiling.
Created by Dr. Carol Dweck , The Growth Mindset is a philosophy of teaching that embraces hard work over natural intelligence, asks children to lean into failure rather than functioning in fear of it, and places emphasis on progress over perfection. Jess is a special education teacher by day, self-care aficionado by night. She has a B.A. in English from North Carolina State University, but teaches math for a living (riddle me that). One time she wrote a poem about road kill; someone liked it enough to publish it in a literary and design magazine. With 10+ years of caregiving experience under her belt, she loves taking care of others and strives to fill people’s lives with a little but of sunshine.
She likes to take polaroid pictures, go on nature walks, and sit on big rocks that overlook rivers. She is very proud of her growing collection of rose quartz. She currently lives with her three cats, and treats them entirely too much like human children.
Meg Hughes is a storyteller. Through photography and writing, she examines the human condition to find the common threads among us all. She delights in the place where the mundane meets the absurd, where grief brushes against celebration, where the light touches the dark.
Meg is a bridge builder, a champion of the underdog, and the opener of multiple cans of worms.
She self-purportedly possesses a wicked wit, but the evidence of such is sorely lacking. Friends, associates, and local news outlets are accustomed to receiving private messages from this badge-wearing member of the grammar police regarding their subject/verb agreement, split infinitives, and questionable spelling choices. To say she has strong feelings about the Oxford comma is a gross understatement–it’s probably best to avoid that subject altogether.
